At the Lor River’s junction with the sea, sits the grand old city of Parma. Its neighbor, just across the river, is the grim and brooding Falian city of Fulda. While geographically close, in every other way these cities are radically different. Parma is a vibrant city of commerce and progress. One of the empire’s largest cities, it is crowded and normally peaceful. Its population rivals the provincial capital of Voltara. during the war with the forces of Artifice, much of the population fled the city and became refugees, while the city itself was physically devastated by fire, combat, and powerful rituals.
The Heliosians, Dukes of Parma since the arrival of the Falians, are no more. A new branch of the Helisian line rules Parma, founded by a Khesta who was adopted into the family during the dark days of the rebellion. Under the guidance of Duke Elghin Heliosian and his heirs, Parma has risen from the ashes. Though much was lost, what was once a city of splendor now shines again.
Parma is also an important naval port for the Northern Imperial Navy, second only to Alnwick. Some of the most powerful Imperial warships make port here. They and their crews of hundreds are an important part of the city’s vibrant economy. Living in one of the wealthiest cities in the known world, the citizens of Parma are more educated and enjoy a higher standard of living than the general masses.
